About Us

J.M. Hanks High School is located in El Paso, Texas. The broadcasting program was started in 1993 and consists of several courses: Video Technology, Advanced Broadcast Journalism, and Independent Study—Technology Application. The intro class is Video Technology and it covers the basics of video production. The Advanced Broadcast Journalism and Independent Study—Technology Application courses produce KnightVision News which is a daily 10-minute news and announcements show that airs on the school’s closed circuit system. The show airs either live or is recorded to a server and played to the school directly from the server. The mission is to provide students with a real world experience of producing a daily news show.

Each month the program also videotapes the Transportation Policy Board meeting of the El Paso Metropolitan Planning Organization. The TPB is made up of 22 area mayors, state senator and representatives, city and county representatives, and transportation department chairs. The show is recorded live-to-tape with three cameras and airs on the Time Warner Cable Public Access Channel as well as being streamed live over the internet. The mission is to provide students with a real world field production experience.
